The Tranquilo Traveler

The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.

stickers.jpgI found a copy of GOOD magazine’s travel issue in my brother’s bathroom in the Mission last weekend. The essence of travel, I read, is “wandering through marketplaces, sampling food of indeterminate origin, and, most important, meeting new people. It’s an old-fashioned but effective way to remind us that we’re all in this together. Certainly, we would all be better off right now if a few people in the Pentagon had spent a little more time drinking tea with locals in Iraq.” Amen. The magazine goes on to celebrate “unlikely” destinations, with articles by Tony Wheeler, among others. [LINK]
