The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
One Day in Masaya
“Masaya!Masaya!Masaya!” This old city between two volcanoes is famous for many things: hammocks, artesenía, lively crafts markets, unique cultural dances, and of course, their baseball team: San Fernando. I finally got to go a game in El Estadio Roberto Clemente (named after the Puerto Rican born Pittsburgh Pirate who died in a plane crash bringing relief supplies to Nicaragua). San Fernando took on León and won, with only one bench-clearing brawl. It was salvaje, especially because I was with good Nica friends, cheering on our team. At one point, I walked onto the field and into the dugout, chatting with the players and ducking foul balls. [Link to photo set]
