The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
Karl Bushby’s Walk Around the World
36,000-mile stroll, anyone? Ex-British paratrooper Karl Bushby, 37, began his record-breaking Goliath Expedition, an attempt to walk from Punta Arenas, Chile to England, in 1998. His food and equipment are pulled, rather than carried, in a wheeled carriage nicknamed “The Beast.” In addition to crossing four continents, 25 countries, six deserts, and 7 mountain ranges, Karl’s remarkable plan involves walking across the Darien Gap and the Bering Strait—on foot! Supported by a team including his father and friend in England, Karl is currently held up in Russia, trying to obtain permission to enter Siberia. The Goliath Expedition site is chock full of photos and videos. He has also already published a book, entitled Giant Steps, about the journey.

Amazing idea and a truly amazing feat!
It goes to show that where there is a will there is a way. The world needs more dreamers.
Damn that guy must have been fit to do that walk. A bit like the Forest Gump movie with him running backwards and forwards across America.
Cheers
John

This phenomenal endeavor reminds me of the late Goren Krupp’s totally unsupported expedition from his home in Sweden to the summit of Mt. Everest. He made it. In fact, a film called “I Made It” documents his exploits. He too got hassled by the Russians trying to cross Siberia on his way home to Sweden. Tragically, this exuberent, innovative guy was killed in a “minor” climbing accident near Seattle, where he had relocated. I hope that Karl Busby also achieves his goal but meets a kinder fate.
