The Tranquilo Traveler

The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.

wildfirstresponder.jpgI’ve been tied up in an intensive 80-hour Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course these past 10 days, practicing spinal immobilization, rescue breathing, triage, and mock rescues in sub-zero temperatures on the CU Boulder campus. The training is preparation for trips to Mexico and Nicaragua this spring as an AJWS Alternative Break Group Leader and (hopefully) this summer as an Outward Bound Wilderness instructor in the Rockies. Standby for my photos from the course; in the meantime, check out this video from Wilderness Medicine Institute (and imagine lots of snow and ice).
