The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
Volunteers wanted in Granada, Nicaragua
People often send me updates about volunteer opportunities, especially in Nicaragua (which, by the way, is experiencing a presidential election today). If you’ve ever volunteered for the following organization, please write to me and tell me about your experience. For other opportunities, keep an eye on the “Voluntourism and Development Work in Nicaragua” thread at the GoToNicaragua.com forum.
La Esperanza Housing & Development Casas de la Esperanza (EH&D) is a non profit, non denominational, non political NGO, incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, tax exempt: 501(c)(3). It develops housing and provides technical education to families who are currently squatters, living on the outskirts of Granada, Nicaragua. Read on for more specifics:
“We have a very exciting project, working with very poor families of La Prusia, close to Granada, that live as squatters on a land that is not their own. We are helping these families to build their own houses, providing them with a piece of land with paths, water and electricity, and building materials in form of a non-interest micro-credit that they will be paying back in very small monthly amounts.
We would like also to provide these families with technical education there by increasing their expectation of a better future.
See our web site: http://www.casas-de-la-esperanza.org/index.html
Volunteers with basic Spanish are welcome, for helping these families to build their hoomes, and also for starting the practical technical education.
If you are interested in this project, please write to us: admin@casas-de-la-esperanza.org
Thanks a lot
Angel”
