The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards Announced
Congratulations to the winners of the 22nd annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition. Although my entry to the this year’s competition, Moon Handbooks Nicaragua 2nd Ed. didn’t make the cut in the Best Guidebook category, I’m glad to see my colleague and shelf-neighbor, Christopher Baker on the list, whose Moon Handbooks Costa Rica took the Silver. The contest is overseen by the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Foundation and judged by the faculty at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. There were a few other familiar names on the list, fellow writers and former editors, and I salute you all. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to wallow in nostalgia with my Bronze Award from last year’s competition.
