The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
El Salvador Update from Chencho
Thank you to all who contributed. The families of Ciudad Romero have returned to their homes, but have a hard time ahead. Here is Chencho’s letter, please consider attending one of his talks during his current U.S. tour — he is an amazing man and coming to Washington State, Wisconsin, and Boston:
Dear Friends,
The families we serve in El Salvador are grateful to everyone who helped them evacuate and ensured they had something to eat during the flooding earlier this month.
Now that they’ve returned home, they’re concerned about getting back on their feet. Aristides Valencia, the Executive Director of the Coordinadora, tells us that “the next eight months could be very hard for El Salvador. Many crops have been lost, so many people may have nothing to eat.”
So, our next challenge is to help those families to grow their own food and feed themselves as soon as possible.

FALL NEWSLETTER
We’ve dedicated our latest newsletter to the environment and how our partner, the Coordinadora, is working with low-income communities to protect the environment, human health, and livelihoods. You can also get a peak at our new staff and office, as well as our new fall campaign to plant fruit trees around schools in honor of the four US churchwomen who were murdered in El Salvador in 1980.
